Must Try Low Carb Restaurants in Venice, Italy

After more than seven years together, on June 30, 2018, Josh and I decided to make our relationship one recognized by the U.S. government. Two weeks later, we were off for our honeymoon. A six-day cruise around the Mediterranean. Which was amazing, and like traveling on ADHD. Perfect for our personalities. Our cruise departed out of Venice, Italy. Which meant we had roughly two days to kill wandering around Venice. We walked around, a lot. More than 61,000 steps, a lot. For reference, I average just over 6,000 steps a day. All that walking resulted in us building up quite the appetites. When people think of Italy, they don't usually think of low carb foods. Instead, people talk about getting pasta or gelato. Neither are things I care for or are low carb friendly. However, coastal areas like Venice are full of delicious seafood and cheeses. Which means it is possible to stay low carb while traveling. You just have to stay strong. So, of all the places we went, here are my top choices and recommendations for anyone traveling to Venice, Italy who is keto or living that low carb life. Tuttinpiedi Tucked away in an alley and described as Venetian Italian street food is this adorable intimate little place called Tuttinpiedi . There are no seats inside the restaurant. Well, to be clear, you could sit inside and eat at the window, but that would accommodate a max of four people. Two per window on either side of the door. They have your classic pasta dishes, a few meat dishes, and of course some salads. I got the Insalata Di Piovra (the octopus salad), and I cannot sing this salad's praises enough. It was the perfect refreshing salad for lunch, and it was only 8 euros (less than $10). Me singing the praises of a salad is strange enough, but an octopus salad at that. I'm generally hesitant around squid or octopus. I've had too many dishes that just came out rubbery, but this place was not rubbery at all. The octopus seemed to melt in your mouth. Mix that with the leafy greens, anise, and balsamic vinegar, and you have a downright delicious and surprising filling dish. I should note here that balsamic vinegar is not precisely keto friendly. It has roughly 2.5 carbs per tablespoon. That said, this salad only had one or two tablespoons of vinegar, and this salad is well worth the less than 5 carbs that it adds. Ogio I can't think of anything more low carb friendly than a plate full of meats, cheese, and olive oil. That's the kind of food you'll find at OGIO . This place has indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bathroom you could use. Adorably, the bathroom had no mirror. Just writing on the wall that said, "You are beautiful!" I liked this. I think the waiter/chef expected me to put the meats and cheeses on the bread he brought to the table, but I stayed strong and opted to just go full caveman on this. Well, half caveman. I used a fork. Venice is full of incredible little restaurants, and in all honesty, you probably wouldn't have trouble finding low carb and keto friendly options at almost any restaurant you went to. We hope to go back and try a few of the places that were closed on the two Sundays we were there. Which reminds me, don't forget to check the times and hours of any restaurant you want to go to. Josh and I were there on two separate Sundays, and a lot of places are closed on Sunday. I know I've been bad about posting recently. It's been a pretty crazy year for me. I started a new day job, got engaged and married, went on this amazing honeymoon, had a family reunion, and my little sister graduated high school. My 29th birthday was just a few days ago, and one of the things I plan to do in my 29th year is to be better about logging my low carb journey, everything from recipes to fitness. So be sure to check back often for more posts, struggles, and hopefully videos. Oh, and if you want quicker food inspiration, follow me on Instagram as KaitandKeto ! Here's a picture of Josh and I after arrive in Venice. As you can see we were quite pumped. #restaurants #review #travel
